THERE'S a new sheriff in town!
Peterhead welcomed Sheriff Marysia Lewis to the town's court last week as she was formally installed at a ceremony on Wednesday and welcomed by Stephen Young, Sheriff Principal of Grampian, Highlands and Islands.

Mrs Lewis (49), a graduate of Strathclyde University, will succeed Sheriff Malcolm Garden who has transferred to the courts in Aberdeen after seven years in the Blue Toon.

Since 1987, Sheriff Lewis has practised as a solicitor with Ledingham Chalmers LLP in Aberdeen, and rose to become an associate with the firm in 1990.

She then became head of the planning and environmental law specialists unit in 2004. She was appointed as a part-time sheriff two years later.

Among the guests at Sheriff Lewis' installation ceremony was Aberdeenshire's Lord Lieutenant, Angus Farquharson.
