KICKING-off in wet and windy conditions nothing exciting happened until the sixth minute when a played through ball to Stewart was stopped by a great save on the deck by Irvine.
A Stonehaven free kick was lobbed in but cleared for a corner. The crossed in ball was sent in goalwards but good defending stopped the shot on the line then cleared. In the 12th minute a cross from A. Davidson onto Jamieson saw his shot cleared by S
mith in goals.
Fortunately the ball went as far out to Ligertwood who sent it skywards, thinking it was going out only for Stephen to pop up and send in the header for the first of Maud's goals.
Play settled into a midfield battle with neither team taking advantage. Stonehaven won a corner from the right which was crossed in and cleared off the line by Rae. In the 41st minute a neat flick on to A. Davidson out on the left saw him put in a cross to Jamieson who slipped his marker and drew out the keeper.
Picking his moment he squared the ball to Stephen who had the easiest of tap-ins to complete his brace.
Stonehaven came out after the interval and upped the tempo but it wasn't long before Maud started to regain control. Bad mistakes by Usher and B. Davidson nearly let Stonehaven pull one back.
Maud broke the deadlock in midfield when a clearance from a corner fell to McDonald whose left-footed shot flew in past the keeper. Within two minutes, Maud added another, this time from Jamieson whose thundering shot went in under the keeper for Maud's fourth of the afternoon.
A desperate attempt to score by Stonehaven led to Rae requiring treatment after being bounced head first off the post. A. Davidson, playing some decent football out on the left, was cruelly denied a goal after beating two defenders but finally his perseverance paid off in the 79th minute when he picked up a long ball out on the left.
Cutting in he slipped his marker and as the keeper came out to cut down the angle, the shot went in to the far side of the net straight over the keeper's head.
Cowie and Clark replaced Jamieson and Ligertwood with Cowie being unlucky not to add to Maud's tally when his rocket shot hit A. Davidson on the deck and was cleared by Stonehaven's defence.
This was a great result for Maud who now look forward to a home game against Parkvale next week in the North Regional Cup with a 2.15pm kick-off.
